Complete After Care

Although some installers will try and sell the idea that artificial grass is totally maintenance free. This is not true. Like with nearly anything that is an external use product, that are permanently exposed to the elements, artificial grass will need to have some after care to maximise its appearance for as long as possible. So, although it is not totally maintenance free, it is extremely low maintenance in comparison to achieving the same appearance with natural grass.

Recommended Maintenance

Below is a basic list of maintenance that would encourage and recommend

Make sure that the surface is kept clear of leaves and debris. It is important these are not left for sustained periods to settle. This could cause a build-up of dust and dampness leading to staining, weed creating and/or moss creating microclimates.
Use a plastic rake, stiff brush, electric power brush, leaf blower or a combination of all mentioned to clear the grass.
With the use of a pump action spray bottle or similar, spray weed killer over the whole area at least once every 4 months. The weed membrane underneath the sub base will stop any underground weeds penetrating through the grass but you may see some surface weeds. This is due to airborne seeds, pollen, soil etc. Use a domestic, non-bleaching, weed killer for this. I would advise to spray on a small discreet sample area before using on the whole surface. The most troublesome area for weeds is the edges so I would advise you treat them as higher importance.

Try not to leave garden furniture or equipment in one place for extended periods. This could cause flattening or damaging of the blades.
Artificial grass is mostly self-cleaning, with the environment helping in the form of rain etc. You may wish to wash the artificial grass from time to time though. Particularly if you have young children or pets. This can be achieved by hosing down the whole area with a light detergent and brushing with a stiff brush or power brush.
